What can your
involvement unlock?

Work with peers across industry, research and civil society. Help choose worthwhile questions and bring the means to investigate them.

01

Executives & C-suite leaders

Turn organisational capacity into human progress.

Why participate

Help shape how Physical AI changes work, capability and access. Examine consequential deployment choices alongside peers.

What you can unlock

A suitable operating environment, an executive sponsor, engineering capacity and a working lead who can sustain the study.

A first contribution

Bring one important human need and identify what your organisation could commit to investigating it.

Prepare this contribution
02

Board members & industry leaders

Bring long-term judgment to emerging choices.

Why participate

Help examine the lasting effects of Physical AI on people, institutions and the distribution of opportunity.

What you can unlock

Independent challenge, experience across organisations and access to leaders who can act on useful findings.

A first contribution

Review a proposed study’s assumptions, outcomes and implications, then help connect it to the right decision-makers.

Prepare this contribution
03

Venture investors & capital partners

Help resource neglected, consequential questions.

Why participate

Explore unmet needs and deployment barriers through independent research into what makes a capability useful to people.

What you can unlock

Research support, relevant founder connections and experience identifying the resources needed to test a proposition.

A first contribution

Help resource an independent study or connect a relevant team to a research question, with interests made transparent.

Prepare this contribution
04

Startup founders

Connect a new capability with a real human need.

Why participate

Work with practitioners and researchers to understand operating conditions, practical alternatives and the outcomes that matter.

What you can unlock

A relevant system, engineering time and the willingness to share what an independent study reveals.

A first contribution

Offer a defined capability for a study and make its assumptions, support requirements and limitations visible.

Prepare this contribution
05

AI-native & technology leaders

Connect technical capability with human outcomes.

Why participate

Investigate how models, robotics, computing and infrastructure work together in settings where human benefit can be assessed.

What you can unlock

Technical expertise, equipment, compute, tools or access to research and engineering teams.

A first contribution

Define a bounded capability contribution, with a named technical lead and terms that support independent evaluation.

Prepare this contribution

Researchers, workers, users and communities help define what counts as progress. Explore research and lived-experience contributions.

A small group with a practical commitment

Help choose the work.
Help make it possible.

We propose a Founding Council bringing together leadership, technology, capital, research and people who understand the lives and work affected by Physical AI.

8–12People in the proposed
founding group
290-minute council sessions
over the first six months
1Defined contribution
from each participant

The council

Choose priorities.
Unlock resources.

Identify neglected questions, connect the right contributors and review whether the work is progressing toward human benefit.

Programme teams

Investigate.
Test. Share.

Researchers and practitioners carry out the work, with methods and findings subject to independent review.

Affected people

Define what matters.
Challenge the outcome.

Workers, users and communities help shape the question, assess the experience and identify benefits and burdens.

Where organisational resources are involved, a nominated working contact would carry the contribution forward. Council members would bring judgment and access; programme teams would manage the research.

Formation stage. Council appointments and organisational commitments will be named as they are confirmed.

The Real Work Evidence Project

One question.
A collective effort.

What does the complete system accomplish, what does it still require from people, and what new value becomes possible?

Open a working environment.

A host helps define a meaningful activity, the practical alternative and the conditions around the work.

Bring a system and its support.

Builders contribute a relevant Physical AI capability and make the engineering and human support it requires visible.

Resource the investigation.

Supporters contribute research time, equipment, compute or funding under terms that preserve independence.

Define and examine the human outcome.

Researchers and affected people assess wellbeing, physical demands, agency, access, costs and uncertainty.

The intended public contribution

A shared method and openly reported findings that help others judge where Physical AI creates worthwhile human benefit, including where it falls short.

Explore the proposed study

Human benefit
sets the direction.

Effective Altruism asks us to examine what our contribution achieves, who it reaches and what the same resources could accomplish elsewhere.

Compare the alternatives.

Investigate an important need and the best practical approaches to addressing it, including simpler solutions.

Include affected people.

Let lived experience influence the question, the study and the judgment of what counts as improvement.

Protect independent findings.

Disclose interests and support. Funding and participation should confer no control over research conclusions.

Make learning useful.

Share methods, limitations and findings—including evidence that an application offers insufficient benefit.

Recognition should show what a participant contributed. Participation does not imply endorsement of a company, product or investment.

Bring a need.
Bring a commitment.

Consider the human outcome you want to help advance and the contribution you can make. A focused starting point helps turn a conversation into practical work.

Text brief · Mission, participation and proposed commitments

Make organisational capacity useful.

Start with one important human need and a contribution your organisation could sustain.

  1. Whose life or work could improve, and how?
  2. What working environment, resources or team could you make available?
  3. Who would carry the work forward, and what could happen in the first 90 days?

For your preparation. Downloads do not submit an application or confirm participation.

Individuals may contribute in a personal capacity. Company and organisation profiles will identify authorised participation and the people contributing through them.
